Cabinetry that extends from floor to almost touching the ceiling, creates a sense of height and decorative touches on top can draw the eye upward. The additional cabinet space, with closed and open shelves, is a perfect answer to the storage space concerns.

White Paint Opens The Space

The way the light bounces off of the color white works wonders in creating a sense of more space.  The darker colors can make the walls feel like they are closing in while white has the opposite effect.  When white is used for both cabinets, walls and appliances, it can seem as if they have no end. Adding color is how you create an end or a boundary.  Use varying shades of white to avoid having it look too much like a hospital.

Stripes Will Widen The View

Stripes that run from side to side across the kitchen floor will create a sense of wideness.  This can be achieved by installing wood floors in this manner or painting your existing flooring.  A colorful wide-striped rug can also be used to achieve the widening effect.
